Finding Maria first blog post

Welcome! This is an event of firsts for me.

This is my first blog posting, on my first web site, to invite you to share in the release of my first novel, Finding Maria.

For the past 20 years, I have earned my living as a non-fiction writer. The only things I wrote purely for enjoyment were invoices and bank deposits.

To describe the writing of a novel as enjoyable is to describe barreling down Space Mountain (or any other of those terrifying roller coasters) as a Sunday drive. However, getting to know Jack, Gwen, Rose, and Billie, as well as Rover, Joe, Gus, and the others who played an integral role in Jack Brandugan's life has been much the same: intriguing, heartbreaking, terrifying, and yes, fun. I hope you agree when you read the book.

I look forward to your thoughts on the book, the web site, the writing process, or the world of books in general.

  • Jennifer, I absolutely lOVED this book! You have such a way with analogies and description that you feel like you're a spectator watching it, I felt as though I was living it too! Very enjoyable read, great job!

  • My favorite sister gave me this lovely book as a Xmas present. It's December 29th and I haven't put it down. Recent loss and stresses of 2010 drift to the back of my mind. This is far better than a good cuppa. It's a warm fire in the middle of a Nova Scotia Winter storm. I've walked the path throuh the pine stands of the Monastery Shrine and the picture you painted is exact and welcoming. I think I'll go for a walk up there when I finish this book. It's the perfect spot to reflect on words, deeds and events. A place to consider new beginnings. Jennifer, I thank you for the gift of good words carefully cropped into a wonderful read.

  • Jennifer, the book was absolutely exceptional. I laughed. I cried. I couldn't put it down. (I even read a little at work, but I doubt the boss would mind! ha ha)
Congratulations on such a wonderful acomplishment.
I hope Finding Maria has a sequel planned for the near future. I would think Jack's life would lend itself to many more fascinating stories!
    Well done!

  • I finished the book last night. Great story! Rainbows have always been a welcome sight- a way to show that the storm is over and that good weather is on the horizon. I was always amazed how the wetness of past storm and new light of good weather made everything more vibrant, more alive. Finding Maria's rainbow gave me that same feeling. Wonderful!
